How To Appeal Your Parking Violation

We endeavor to issue parking tickets only when confronted with a "clear" violation.  We are aware, however, that there may be significant circumstances unknown to the Parking Enforcement Officer which could perhaps mitigate the ticket.  Therefore, you are invited to appeal any parking violation you believe to be unwarranted.

Appeals are heard by a 3-member board.  The Board will hear appeals on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month, only, beginning at 4:30 PM.  In the event of a Thursday holiday, the hearing will be moved to the Thursday immediately following and at the originally scheduled time.

Tickets may be appealed in person or in writing.  All letters or requests for appeal appointments must be made within 21 calendar days from the date the ticket is issued.  If you choose to appeal your ticket in writing, the appeal must be received in the office of the Parking Clerk before the end of that 21-calendar day period. Any appeals or requests for parking hearings received after this 21 calendar day period will not be adjudicated.  All decisions of the Board will be rendered by U. S. Mail within 7 working days from the hearing date, and said decision shall be final.  If your appeal is denied, you may then seek Judicial review by contacting Salem Superior Court.
